This privacy notice tells you what personal data we collect, why, and what your rights are. It's written in plain English. The legal name behind The Curious Closet is Hand-finished on the East Coast of North Yorkshire · ships worldwide, and the data controller is whoever is reading the emails on a given week.
What we collect
- Order details — your name, email, phone (if you give it), shipping address, and what you bought.
- Payment details — handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number.
- Contact form messages — your name, email, phone (optional), and whatever you've written.
- Server logs — your IP address and basic request info, kept for ~14 days for security.
Why we collect it (lawful basis)
- Contract — to send you what you bought and answer questions about it.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the site online and protect against fraud.
- Consent — for anything else (e.g. the newsletter, if we add one). We'll ask first.
Who we share it with
Only the bare minimum:
- Stripe — to take payment.
- Royal Mail / a courier — to deliver your parcel.
- Our email provider (Google) — because that's where we read your messages.
- Our hosting provider — Generative Solutions, on UK-based servers.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not run ad-network tracking on this site.
How long we keep it
Order records: 7 years (HMRC requires it). Contact messages: 2 years. Server logs: 14 days. You can ask us to delete order records sooner, but we have to redact, not erase, anything we're legally required to keep.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- Show you what we have on file (Subject Access Request)
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete what we can legally delete
- Send your data to another service in a portable format
Email hello@thecuriouscloset.com and we'll reply within 30 days.
Complaints
